Rethinking Urban “Chalet”

An existing, 70 year old wood building needs an extention. The additional space almost doubles the built volume. The renovation of the existing building focused on improving what is already built and not altering its character. The newly added spaces are promoting a new perspective and space perception. Translucent, insulated wall parts connect the function cubes, and there is an elevated space, made of prefabricated wood construction. The special arrangement connects its habitants closely with their environment and lets them experience the seasons and different views. The building combines sustainable technologies and spatial qualities to form a new, complex and highly valuable solution.
